Augmented Reality for Early Learners - Exploring a whole new world on ipad
Step into a world of wonder with augmented reality (AR), where early learners can walk among dinosaurs, explore a thriving forest, or retell a story alongside their favourite characters. This hands-on workshop explores how AR apps on iPad can spark curiosity, enhance storytelling, and create immersive learning experiences—all in developmentally appropriate ways.
This 90-minute in-person workshop will guide educators through a hands-on exploration of engaging and age-appropriate AR apps, showcasing how digital experiences can be used to enrich oral language, inquiry, and play-based learning in early childhood settings.
Participants will:
Discover how AR supports storytelling, oral language development, and inquiry-based exploration in early learning environments.
Engage in hands-on experiences with AR apps that allow children to interact with virtual objects, bring stories to life, and explore real-world concepts in new ways.
Learn practical strategies for integrating AR meaningfully into play-based and multimodal learning experiences.
Participants will leave this workshop with the confidence and resources to introduce augmented reality in ways that inspire creativity, engagement, and deeper learning.
This workshop aligns with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (Connectedness, Communicating, Active Learning) and the Early Years Learning Framework (Outcomes 2, 4, 5), as well as drawing on the research and principles outlined in Early Childhood Australia’s Statement on Young Children and Digital Technologies.
