Digital Creativity on iPad for Early Learners | Culture Tech
In early childhood, learning is filled with wonder, curiosity, and discovery. Just as children express themselves through drawing, painting, movement, and storytelling, digital tools like iPad offer another powerful way for them to communicate, create, and share their ideas. Used alongside blocks, pencils, and paint, iPad becomes a versatile and inclusive learning tool—one that empowers all children to express themselves in ways that suit their strengths, interests, and abilities.
This 2.5-hour in-person workshop will explore simple, beginner-friendly ways to introduce digital creativity in early learning environments. Through hands-on play and digital exploration, participants will discover how iPad can be used for storytelling, photography, movie-making, digital art, and simple animation—providing opportunities for all learners to share their voices and document their discoveries. Educators will have time to experiment with apps, gather resources, and explore Inspiration Stations, where they can interact with tools and ideas to take back to their learning environments.
Participants will:
Explore how iPad, used alongside traditional materials, provides young children with multiple ways to express their ideas, creativity, and understanding of the world.
Engage in hands-on play, discovering how photography, digital art, animation, and video can support oral language, storytelling, and social-emotional development.
Learn about the inclusive nature of iPad, including accessibility tools and open-ended apps that support all learners.
Participants will leave this workshop with practical ideas, confidence, and resources to begin embedding digital creation in their classrooms in a way that values play, creativity, and inclusion.
This workshop aligns with the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines (Communicating, Active Learning) and the Early Years Learning Framework (Outcomes 4, 5), as well as drawing on the research and principles outlined in Early Childhood Australia’s Statement on Young Children and Digital Technologies.
Queensland Early Years Services can use their Kindy Uplift funding to attend this workshop as it aligns with the priority area of Oral Language and Literacy and Equity and Access for All.
